This summer, I had the opportunity to capture footage at The Cure Michigan Cup, a private caregiver festival hosted by Big Cloud Farms in Jones, Michigan. This marked my third time filming for Big Cloud, and by now, I’ve gotten pretty familiar with what works best at these events. The festival vibe is electric, with a mix of drum and bass, electronic music, and an array of cannabis vendors, all creating the perfect backdrop the highlight video. This September event was a hot one, in Jones Michigan.
Today’s event was particularly special, with Big Cloud Judges hosting a hash competition and giving out “best of” awards. The judges dabbed their brains out. I filmed. The Kotton Mouth Kings headlined, adding an extra layer of energy to the atmosphere. I captured it all, from day to night. Hihglighting the best from the event. The Big Cloud crew always welocmed me with open arms and were always enthusiastic to be apart of the film. When I first started working these events, the crew wanted me to stay all weekend, but due to the budget, I’ve now refined my workflow to film everything I need in just a day and a half, camping for one night. This allows me to capture most of Saturday’s action while still delivering a solid highlight reel. I ended up departing after Saturday nights live music events.
By this point, I know exactly what to focus on: the fire breathers, the circus performers, and those moments of pure crowd energy. Slow-motion shots really bring out the drama in these performances, and the festival’s unique community vibe always makes for great footage.
