I couldn’t wait for spring to take my Mavic Pro drone out for its first flight! Despite the chilly weather, I decided to take it for a spin at Belle Isle in Detroit during winter. Belle Isle is one of the last remaining spots in Detroit where you can still fly recreationally, making it the perfect location for my debut flight.
Winter flying does come with its risks—some say the cold temperatures can damage your drone or its components. But for me, the excitement of flying outweighed the potential hazards. It was freezing cold in Detroit, but that didn’t stop me from capturing the stunning winter landscapes from above.
I’m also in the process of obtaining my full commercial drone license to expand my capabilities and offer services to businesses. Despite the winter chill and the challenges it brings, the experience was exhilarating and a testament to the beauty and versatility of drone photography, even in the coldest of seasons.
