Unconventional method for USI Groups “About” Video

Working with Doug Klinginsmith and his wife Tiffany on this project was a refreshing experience. As I learned, Tiffany is a Ferris State alum, which added a fun connection. This project, however, challenged me to step outside of my usual process. Typically, I shoot most of my own footage, but for this one, I relied heavily on stock footage—a rare method for me. I did get a chance to fly my drone for some original shots, including one outside the USI Group building. Still, the bulk of the video came together through carefully selected stock clips. It was a unique way to complete a video, and it opened my eyes to different creative possibilities.

This video marked my first foray into the Gas, Oil, and Energy industry, which has been exciting. The company, Unconventional Solution Inc. (USI), based in Wixom, Michigan, specializes in two-part epoxies and adhesives used to repair gas and oil pipelines. Their work helps keep pipelines sealed and production ongoing while scheduling necessary repairs to infrastructure. It was fascinating to dive into this new sector and understand how my work could support their goals.

Doug and I collaborated closely throughout the project. I wrote the initial script, and with his revisions, we crafted a narrative that fit USI’s needs perfectly. Doug even lent his voice for the voiceover, giving the video that personal touch. Combining the stock footage with our original shots and his voiceover really brought everything together.

I’m excited about the potential for more collaborations with USI in the future, especially after exploring this new industry. There’s definitely more to come.
